yom kippur
________________________________________________________________________________

Yom Kippur is the holy day that brings Jews closer to God through the process of prayer and repentance. On this day of atonement, Jews all over the world fast for 25 hours to help us transcend our physical natures and to completely focus on our prayers. Individually and collectively, we seek forgiveness for our transgressions against God and our acquaintances. By so doing, we in effect wipe the slate clean for the upcoming year. On Yom Kippur, God judges all Jews and inscribes those who have atoned for their sins in the Book of Life for the next year.
