2008 Kids Triathlon
The First Annual
Indianapolis Kids Triathlon
On Sunday, June 29, 2008, 133 children from all
over the Indianapolis community and surrounding
states earned a medal at the Indianapolis Kids
Triathlon. The young athletes, ages 7 through
14, came out to the Arthur M. Glick JCC on a
clear, sunny morning to swim, bike and run.
The thrill of the race was only surpassed by the
sense of accomplishment each child experienced
as they crossed the finish line.
All of the athletes wore a timing chip around
their ankle so that their true competitor was the
clock. Parents, friends, JCC members and
triathlon sponsors lined the course to cheer
on the young athletes. Every child was an
inspiration for everyone in attendance.
The JCC and Big Brothers Big Sisters were
partners in sponsoring 10 “littles.” Each big/little
brother pair committed to training for 8 weeks (the kids worked with a trainer and we
gave them full use of the JCC during this time) and to competing in the race. In return,
each child received running shoes, a swim suit, goggles, swim cap, entry fee and with
assistance from Sidney & Lois Eskenazi, the bicycle that they rode in the race.
